At the moment, the Redmii 4A is the cheapest smartphone offered by the company, and today, Xiaomi announced its successor, the Redmi 5A, for an event in China. With a price of 599 CNY (about Rs 5,900), it will be available for purchase in China, starting today through e-commerce websites, including the official Xiaomi website.

Nearly a clone of its predecessor in terms of design, the only difference is that the Redmi 5A comes with a metal body, compared to the Redmi 4A polycarbonate body. On the back is a 13-megapixel rear opening f / 2.2 camera, and functions like burst mode, HDR mode, panoramic mode and more, along with a LED flash. The antenna crosses the top edge of the device. The logo is towards the end, while the loudspeaker grid is placed beneath it.

On the front is a 5 megapixel lens with f / 2.0 aperture, positioned next to the handset and a proximity sensor. It has a 5-inch HD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels and we do not see signs of a fingerprint sensor. The volume button and power button are positioned to the right, while the SIM tray is to the left.

It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core chipset with a 1.4GHz clock, accompanied by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded to 128GB. The smartphone runs Android 7.1 with MIUI 9. It is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery. Smartphone connectivity options include 3G / 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Micro-USB. Redmi 5A smartphone has a hybrid SIM slot.

In comparison, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A was launched in India in March this year and came with a Rs 5,999 price. The Xiaomi Redmi 4A exposes a 5-inch (720p) HD IPS display and works with 64-bit Snapdragon 425 64-bit Qualcomm chipset coupled with Adreno 308GPU. The smartphone comes with a choice of 2GB and 3GB of RAM, both with 16GB of expandable memory.

The smartphone also features a 13 megapixel main camera and a 5 megapixel selfie camera. A 3,120mAh battery powers the device. There is no built-in fingerprint sensor as well. Connectivity options include two Hybrid SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. On the front of the software, the smartphone runs on MIUI 8 based on Android Marshmallow.
